Happy 55th birthday, Preben Elkjær!

Preben Larsen Elkjær
Today Tuesday 11th September 2012 one of the biggest legend of Hellas Verona has turned 55: we're talking about the 'crazy horse', Preben Elkjær Larsen.

Born in Vanlose in 1957, the Danish striker signed for Hellas in 1984 after he played for Koln and Lokeren, where he scored lot of goals.

Hellas Verona talent scouts noticed him during the European played in France where he reached the semi-final with his Denmark against Spain even if he missed the penalty that would have costed his team the final.

Elkjær and Hellas, a pure love since they first met.
He then conquered the Verona fans with his magnificent goal against Juventus at 'Bentegodi' (you can watch it at the end of this article) scored without his shoe.

The 'crazy horse' won the scudetto in the 1984/85 season with the gialloblu and took part to the European competitions with Hellas. He was proclaimed 'Mayor of Verona' by the Curva Sud and even the new 'Pope'.

Elkjær became the idol of 'butei' due to his unconventional character, his passion for cigarettes and for drinking wine.

We'd like to celebrate the hero of the Curva Sud in a special day for him and to thank him for his work here in Verona. He'll always be welcome.

Happy birthday, to the real Mayor of Verona!
